Description

Beautiful landscape and unique ecosystem, worth exploring all the way into the heart of the forest, and of course take great pictures.
Antinioti Lagoon is located on a very small island, called Nisos, in northeastern Corfu, in a short distance from our accommodation, between the beach of Agios Spyridon and Almyros beach. The island is connected with Agios Spyridon Peritheia beach through a small bridge.

Lake Antinioti is an important wetland, with rich flora and wildlife, featuring among other species of animals, 90 migratory birds and the otter Lutra-lutra, one of the rarest and most endangered mammals in Europe.
In addition to Lutra-lutra, in the area you will also find sixteen different species of orchids, as well as rare aquatic plants that are not found anywhere else in the Ionian Islands. To fully grasp the beauty of the ecosystem, follow the 13 km route into the forest!

The area of the Antinioti lagoon occupies about 1.000.000 sqm. Part of them is occupied by the lake, and the rest by swampy and wild vegetation, flowers and reeds.

The lagoon area is a protected area and is part of the Natura 2000 Network, where have been listed all the pan-European endangered habitats that need to be protected and preserved (a special legislation first introduced in 1992).
